History of New Balance

~A new, balanced feeling. The history of New Balance~

Since its founding in Boston, New Balance has always pursued fit.

1906, Boston, USA - Arch support insoles and flat feet correction

New Balance Balance was founded as a manufacturer of corrective shoes.

The company name comes from the fact that the shoes bring a sense of "newness and balance" to the wearer.

The manufacture of corrective shoes is only possible with anatomical knowledge of the foot and a deep understanding of orthopedics and exercise physiology. Based on this know-how, we began manufacturing custom-made running shoes in the 1960s.

Then in 1972, New Balance Balance, which had six employees and a daily production capacity of 36 pairs of shoes, was purchased by a young man named James S. Davis.

He is currently Chairman of the Board of New Balance Athletics Inc.

In order to create the ideal running shoes, the young man engaged in development by running himself, and established the original shoe concept "Instep Racing."

In the late 1970s, New Balance released a shoe that embodied this concept and won overwhelming support from runners. Since then, while continuing its traditions, New Balance has been incorporating the latest technology to create shoes that offer better fit. This approach to shoemaking that prioritizes functionality will never change in the future.
